Update 3/7/2011

Good evening blogging community! I'm fresh out of a rehearsal for my company's production of Sleeping Beauty and it's improving more and more everyday. Aside from the two solos (Woodland Glade Fairy and the Sapphire Fairy) I am performing three other corps de ballet roles. The roles are: Garland Waltz in Act I, a Dryad in Act II and a Lilac Fairy Attendant in the Prologue. It's a lot of work especially when rehearsing the Prologue as I'm paying attention to two roles at once. (Lilac Fairy Attendant and the Woodland Fairy are occasionally on stage at the same time)

The identical version to the Sapphire Fairy variation I am performing is unfortunately not available on YouTube. Rather than having three stones (Sapphire, Gold and Silver) behind the Diamond Fairy, we do it more similarly to a 1970's version of the Royal Ballet in which each stone performs their own variation and not only a pas de trois. The Woodland Fairy variation is also not found on YouTube but is performed in the Prologue like most classic interpretations. Despite some searches I haven't found a fitting video for the corps de ballet roles but to anyone interested in owning a DVD of Sleeping Beauty, we perform a resembling version to theirs.

The performance is in eighteen days! It's very nerve racking but I think we'll be ready in time... Or at least I hope we will... :p

  1. Hi! I don't know where else to ask this so I guess I'll ask here:) So I've been working harder than usual in my ballet classes lately because we have our annual recitle coming up and a springtime performance coming soon and lately my achilles tendon has been hurting a lot. My teacher said it might be a little achilles tendonitis, and he said just to put ice on it, and I've done that but it doesn't seem to be getting better. I have also rested it and not worn my pointe shoes, but it's been like this for 3 weeks now! I have tried stretching it but that only makes it worse... :/ I was wondering if you have any advice on how to help my achilles tendon? Should I just work through the pain or is there something I can do...? Thank you so much and good luck at your upcoming show!

  2. First off, thank you so much for reading and commenting!
Now, it does sound like it it may be a bit of tendinitis and the ice therapy is proper advice but ultimately the only way for achilles tendinitis to heal is with time. Some people have found that compression helps ease the pain and the compression actually improves the circulation which will speed up the healing process. Some people well wear elastics around their leg to bed/during the day. A fair dose of ibuprofen could definitely help with the pain. Talk to your doctor about it and see what more advice they can offer you. I understand that you have performances coming up so you'll want to be in the best shape possible for those shows, but resting is crucial. Good luck with everything and please let me know how it all goes!

  3. Thank you so much! I will do what you sugjested and I will definately let you know how it goes! Thanks again!!! :)

  4. Anytime! So glad that I could help :)
