Update 3/24/2010

Posting is getting harder and harder... I'll sit down to write and have no idea what to say.

Now with that said we can move onto a more positive note, (Drum roll please) I have finally been invited into the company! After years of hard work I jumped that final step and found myself submerged in a world of constant dancing and frequent performances. Yay!!! I really wish I could tell you where I dance and send you the link to the company's website to show you my picture under the "company dancers" link... But,

1: I have a mother who is protective.
2: There are creepers in this world and I hope none of them are lurking about my blog...

As soon as A Midsummer Night's Dream is over I will have much more time on my hands which means many more posts! :) If you guys have any requests for posts or some cool ideas for my blog, do NOT hesitate to let me know!

I would also like to give a shout out to my new blog followers/YouTube channel followers. THANK YOU!!! Don't be afraid to comment and leave your dancing stories on my posts, we want to hear them!

Some other news I have: The dance school down the street (That I do not dance at) offered me a job over the summer! I'm super excited! I would be teaching a ballet class every week. (Not sure how many times, nothing is confirmed yet!) I really want to take up the opportunity and I would get paid!!!! Kaching. (Although it's not like it would bet that much!) ;)

March flew by didn't it?! I expected it to pass us at an extremely sluggish pace and then I would have to wait out a few weeks until April vacation. (Which, as you may remember, I am going to North Carolina for! So excited!!!! 23 days until I leave!)

Setting Goals

For a dancer, setting goals can be the best way to help you reach your full potential. With a goal, we have something to look forward to and strive to reach. I know how much it has helped me in my career and now I'll pass a few secrets onto you all!
Here are things you'll need to remember about setting goals for yourself:

  1. Always be realistic. You can't expect to perfect your quadruple pirouette by the end of the week because it physically cannot happen! (Unless you're extremely close) When setting a goal look at the short-term and long term. (Short-term being one week to two months and long-term being three months and up) In the short-term, think of things like: Stretch for twenty minuets each night, land three clean triples by the end of the week, be more aware of the position my fingers are in etc. etc. When thinking in long-term, set goals like: Have an arabesque around 100 degrees, do triples on command, improve turnout, keep my arms straighter or have pointed feet when walking.
  2. Set a date. Give yourself a time limit on how long you have to accomplish that goal. When deciding how long your limit will be, refer to rule #1.
  3. Have a good mental image. Picture what you want to look like when your "goal clock" has run out and DO THAT! The more you make yourself look or dance like your "accomplished self" the more you will actually look like that person.
  4. Stay positive! Never give up on your goals, it doesn't help anything. Even the moments when you're more frustrated than ever, do NOT cave in! There have been plenty of moments where I've thought, "Oh it's fine, I don't need to worry about it." Not true! In ballet every little detail matters. Rule #3 should help tremendously with this particular rule. Whenever you feel like disregarding your goal, just think of how great you'll feel after you've improved.
And if you don't reach your goal in time, that's fine! Give yourself a little extra time and keep going. Remember, everyone works at a different pace, you may not accomplish your goal at the same time as the next person.

Setting goals has helped me accomplish so much. I improved my turnout, learned to walk more like a ballerina than an elephant, added some elegance to my arm movements and am incredibly close to having triples on command. And not to be mistaken, it all took a LOT of work!
I don't live by this saying but occasionally it applies: It's not worth gaining if you don't have to fight for it. (Or something along those lines!)

Dying... Almost Dead... Completely and Utterly Dead...

First off I would like to say: I'M SO SORRY!

I know I haven't posted in ages, I have been more busy than ever! My family has been calling March our "Month from Hell" and that is precisely what it is. I have rehearsals for a Midsummer Night's Dream which by the way is this weekend, classes, my sister has been having PT appointments every week, my brother has wrestling tournaments every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM all over the state, (That's the real killer right there) and on top of all that I have school work that kinda needs to get done. I'm so fried!

At this point I just need to hand in there until April vacation because I'm going to North Carolina! So excited! That trip is the shining light at the end of the tunnel, the tiny spark of hope in the midst of a... I don't know what, but it's all I'm looking forward to! I NEED this trip!

Alright, I've gotta go. School must be done.

I hope to keep everyone more updated and I will post pics of Midsummer this weekend.

Anyone else not enjoying this month as much as me?
